So were in the midst of winter and I realized I do not have a home storm kit. So I thought it was a good topic to discuss... A basic kit should include emergency contacts and their info, garage door manual in case you have to get out of your garage, non-perishable food items, can opener, flashlight and extra batteries, candles and lighters, landscape lights, head lamps and batteries, radio that has national weather channel and make sure it is a solar or hand cranked, cell phone charger for your car  and an extra battery, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, 1 gallon water per person per day- you should plan on no less than 72 hours, snacks ie granola bars, nuts, whistle or horn, blankets, and lets not forget Fido and Fifi pet supplies.. I have also included a couple of games just so we are not having to look around for anything. Do not forget to have a little cash also as you may have to go out and need some cash handy. So this is my quick reminder to you to make sure you have your kit together! Happy winter.
When creating a winter survival kit for your home, take into consideration factors that are specific to your home and family. For instance if your home is isolated or on the outskirts of a residential area, making it more difficult for help to reach you, make sure to stock additional amounts of food, water, and medicine. Listening to weather forecasts regularly can provide you with several days’ notice to allow you to check emergency materials and to stock-up on essential supplies. Here are a couple of my sources..
