Helping A Client And Warming My Heart

I recently listed a home of a elderly gentleman who had lost his wife unexpectedly 6 years ago. This was the home that they built and raised their kids. When I went to the first listing appointment, I noticed on our house tour a huge quantity of artwork, artist materials etc. He explained that his wife was a artist and he wasn’t able to move her items after her death. The paintings were absolutely beautiful, very high quality work. She was obviously very talented.

Once we secured the listing, the hard decisions and work would begin. My 19 year old son was interning with me this past summer and we offered to roll up our sleeves and help him work through some of his wife’s items. The day we arrived, Bob was very overwhelmed and emotional. With his permission, we started categorizing the artwork, gathering, storing supplies and organizing them in the unfinished area. He had so many emotions tied to the items themselves, he was unable to proceed before we arrived.

After a few hours, we had the entire basement cleared, items taken to the trash and the floor clear! He was so grateful and relieved, he ended up giving my son a beautiful painting that presently hangs in his dorm room. I think we both helped each other that day. Such a rewarding experience for my son and me as well as helping him out of an impossible situation.

His house received 4 offers in three hours, selling above list price.
